MERCEDES AMG-GT3
The Mercedes AMG-GT3 was first presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015.
Road-going versions are built in Sindelfingen with support from a second factory in Affalterbach, where the AMG V8 engines are produced. The design was based upon the Mercedes-AMG GT model with its low centre of gravity and excellent weight distribu:on. Tweaks included a widened body, larger air intakes, a diffuser and a large rear aerofoil with several carbon fibre body panels reducing the weight of the race model.
The car claimed its first worldwide race win in the hands of Kiwi Craig Baird in race one of the 2016 Australian GT Championship, held as a support race to the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
An updated version was introduced at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in June 2019. The car for the 2020 season featured an automa:c data logger, a func:on to automa:cally start the engine when the car is lowered from its in-built air-jacks and a revised brake system. The front splimer and rear wing were also modified to enable for faster adjustments.
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine with power transmimed to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequen:al gearbox mounted in a transaxle configura:on on the rear axle. Like the chassis, the double-wishbone suspension is mainly made from aluminium. It delivers around 500hp and 600Nm of torque.
